STAND BY YOUR MAN:

A NEW MUSICAL ABOUT THE LIFE OF COUNTRY SINGING SENSATION

TAMMY WYNETTE

Northridge, CA: ArtsNorthridge at California State University, Northridge proudly presents a new Broadway-bound musical Stand By Your Man: The Tammy Wynette Story. The music and story of Country Music legend Tammy Wynette will be presented on Saturday, February 5th at 8:00 PM in the Performing Arts Center at California State University, Northridge.

From the daughter of a sharecropper to the "First Lady of Country Music," the late Tammy Wynette led a life as spectacular as her dreams. Filled with fame, family and five husbands along the way, Tammy took both her triumphs and tragedies and wove them into a tapestry of songs she shared with the entire world. Stand By Your Man: The Tammy Wynette Story takes us through Tammy's private and professional life, celebrating the heart and heartaches that, like her music, will touch and thrill new and old fans with a celebration of Tammy Wynette, lady and legend.

Tammy Wynette recorded, performed, and sometimes wrote many of her greatest hits.  Her music depicted her life with amazing accuracy.  The sound track for the musical had literally already been written.  Tammy's music was not about someone who was disguising her pain; it's someone who was exposing her pain.  Tammy's life can literally and musically be tracked through the songs that she wrote and chose to sing throughout her vibrant career. This show is packed with over two dozen of TammyÕs greatest hits including: ÒI DonÕt Want to Play House Anymore,Ó Golden Rings,Ó ÒHold On,Ó ÒI Still Believe in Fairy Tales,Ó ÒD-I-V-O-R-C-EÓ and of course ÒStand By Your Man.Ó

5 HUSBANDS - 50 HIT SONGS - 20 MILLION FANS - 1 WOMANÕS LIFE.

Tammy Wynette's professional successes, with over 50 hit songs and millions of fans, were sometimes overshadowed by her often-frustrated search for love which she eventually found with her longtime friend and collaborator, George Richey. Stand by Your Man has a book by Mark St. Germain, who wrote the award-winning plays Camping with Henry & Tom, Out of Gas on LoverÕs Leap and Forgiving Typhoid Mary. His television credits include writer and creative consultant for ÒThe Cosby Show,Ó Dick WolfÕs ÒCrime & PunishmentÓ and ÒThe Wright Verdicts.Ó Gabriel Barre will direct and stage the musical tribute. Barre directed the Off-Broadway production of The Wild Party at the Manhattan Theatre Club. His Goodspeed Opera credits include the revival of, King of Hearts, Sweeney Todd and FinianÕs Rainbow. He also has directed a number of new shows both at the Opera House and at The Norma Terris Theatre including Summer of Õ42, Houdini, Dorian, Fanny Hill and Honky-Tonk Highway.
